2020 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

It’s just around the corner!

WHEN:

Saturday, October 17, 2020

WHERE:

Your neighborhood - tracks, trails, sidewalks, etc.

HOW:

Solo, with friends, with family, with your dog.

Wisely (wearing a mask and social distancing, etc.)

It’s time for the Annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s!

Dear neighbors,

Due to the pandemic, there won’t be a mass, single-location gathering this year. But we are still walking and raising awareness of the fight to end Alzheimer’s by hitting the sidewalks, trails, tracks, etc. in neighborhoods across the country.

In honor of my mom Wanda Ramke and her father James Demahy, my family and I will be walking as part of the Wanda’s Walkers team on Saturday, October 17th and hope that you’ll join us. You’ll find our team signup page plus walk details linked here and below.

Although you can walk literally anywhere this year, I’ll be flagging my favorite place to walk (Exploration Green) with ribbons and chalk from now until Walk Day. And starting on Wednesday, October 7,  stop by 863 Seamaster Drive anytime and grab a free lei from our crepe myrtle tree. So we can all walk together in spirit, while staying safely apart.

Thank you!

Melissa Ramke

My parents, Ken and Wanda Ramke, were two of the original homeowners in the Camino South subdivision. Like so many in our neighborhood, Dad worked at NASA while Mom was an active school, sports and church volunteer and receptionist for a local veterinarian. Along with all this, she found time to transform our yard into a veritable oasis of azaleas, roses and other blooms.

Two years ago, when our mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, my brother and I pledged to do everything we could to keep Mom at home for as long as possible, alongside the neighbors she’s known and loved for decades.

Great strides have already been made in Alzheimer’s research, but there is a long way to go. And so, I invite you to join my family and me in our efforts to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association during this year’s event. Or, to simply walk with us as we honor my mom and all the many, many people like her whose lives have been upended by this devastating disease.
